Manchester United join race for high-profile free agent Davies

Manchester United are ready to rival Real Madrid in the race to sign Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich.

Davies is out of contract at the end of the campaign and emerging as one of the biggest free agents of next summer’s transfer window, having been unable to agree terms on an extension with Bayern.

Real Madrid are long-term suitors of the Canada international and frontrunners to sign Davies, though competition is emerging from the Premier League.

Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has claimed the Red Devils are preparing another raid on Bayern Munich, having signed Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from the German side in the summer. Erik ten Hag’s team hold an interest in Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka, alongside Davies.

United have started the season without a recognised left-back with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia suffering from ongoing fitness issues and Davies is viewed as an elite option to solve their problem position.

According to the report, United ‘are not overly confident of winning the competitive race for his signature’, with Real Madrid remaining the likeliest destination. Bayern have not given up hope of renewing terms with Davies, though their latest offer fell significantly short of the player’s demands.

Manchester United also tracking former defender Carreras

United and Real Madrid are also tracking Alvaro Carreras, who left Old Trafford in the summer to sign for Benfica. The Red Devils have a buy-back option to sign the Spaniard, though there is rival interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool.
