Manchester United join Chelsea in race for £52m midfielder

Manchester United have joined Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham in the race to sign Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig this summer.

Olmo has a release clause of £52m in his contract with the Bundesliga side and a host of Premier League clubs are considering meeting those conditions.

The 25-year-old has scored seven goals in all competitions this season, equalling the best return of his Leipzig career to date, despite fitness issues that have restricted the midfielder to 19 appearances. His haul includes a hat-trick against Bayern Munich as Leipzig won the German Super Cup in August.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United have joined the long list of clubs chasing a deal for Olmo as the Red Devils look to invest under new minority owners Ineos. However, interest from Real Madrid in the Spain international could complicate matters for Premier League clubs.

Despite having never featured in La Liga, Olmo has established himself as a regular with the Spanish national side and scored a stunning solo goal in the 3-3 draw with Brazil during March’s international break.

The versatile midfielder has scored eight times in 33 caps for La Roja and is expected to take a prominent role at this summer’s European Championship.

Having began his career in the academies of Espanyol and Barcelona, Olmo signed for Dinamo Zagreb as a teenager and started his senior career with the Croatian side.

He could become the latest big-money departure from Leipzig to the Premier League, after the sales of Christopher Nkunku, Dominik Szoboszlai and Josko Gvardiol to English clubs last summer.
