Manchester United are prepared to challenge Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Angel Gomes from Lille this summer.
Gomes is out of contract at the French side in the summer and available on a free transfer. The 24-year-old has impressed in Ligue 1 since leaving Manchester United to join Lille in 2020.
He has made 124 appearances in all competitions for Lille and finished as the joint-leading assist provider in Ligue 1 last season. In September, he was called into the England squad for the first time and has since won four caps for the senior side.
Previously, Gomes had formed part of the successful England sides that won the u-17 World Cup (2017) and u-21 European Championship (2023).
Manchester United are planning an overhaul of their midfield with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen expected to leave at the end of the campaign. Amid limited finances, Gomes has emerged as an attractive option for Ruben Amorim.
Spurs and West Ham are also interested in the player, while CaughtOffside claim German duo Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are also considering Gomes.
The midfielder came through the academy ranks at Manchester United and made his first-team debut, aged 16, in 2017. Gomes became the first player born in the 2000s to make their Premier League debut and the youngest debutant for the Red Devils in 61 years. However, he made just 10 first-team appearances before departing for France in 2020.
