Manchester United are eyeing a move for Everton’s Idrissa Gueye as a potential replacement for Ander Herrera.
Midfielder Herrera’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, with the club having so far failed to agree new terms with the player’s representatives.
The Spaniard is believed to be holding out for a deal worth £200,000-a-week, a deal United currently appeared unwilling to match for a player who turns 30 in August.
Reports last week emerged that Herrera had signed a pre-contract agreement to join French champions Paris Saint-Germain, with the player set to move to Ligue 1 in the summer.
According to the Evening Standard United have identified Everton’s Gueye as a potential replacement for Herrera.
The Senegal international was ironically subject to interest from PSG in January, with Marco Silva’s side rejecting two bids from the Parisian club.
The second bid, rejected on deadline day, was reportedly worth around £26m and any bid from United would have to surpass this fee.
Gueye has been with Everton since signing from Aston Villa in 2016, the 29-year-old having made over 100 appearances for the Merseyside club.
