Nemanja Matic has said that he was ‘the biggest problem for the team’ during their 4-0 demolition at the hands of Everton on Sunday afternoon.
The Manchester United midfielder made his first appearance in three weeks, but he was unable to arrest the clubs miserable recent form, with the game at Goodison Park largely passing the Serbian by.
While a lot of fingers have been pointed at the likes of Paul Pogba, United’s ineffective front three and their awful defence, experienced midfielder Matic has said that he was the main problem for the Red Devils.
“Several things didn’t work for us today. First of all our start to the match,” Matic told Norwegian TV channel, TV2.
“I, the most experienced of all of us, did not play well today. We can’t blame the young players, I was the biggest problem for the team today.
“In such matches you have to win the duels in the middle, so the team can play better. We didn’t do that today.”
Despite the defeat, Arsenal’s defeat to Crystal Palace and Tottenham loss at Man City means that United still have a decent chance of securing a top-four finish, with them sitting just three points behind third-place Spurs.
