Manchester United drop Idrissa Gueye interest as Everton name their price

Manchester United are set to drop their interest in Idrissa Gueye as they are unwilling to match Everton’s valuation.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been reported to be keen on a move for the 29-year-old midfielder, as he looks to rebuild his squad following a disappointing end to the season at Old Trafford.

Gueye had emerged as a top target for Manchester United following Ander Herrera’s decision to leave the club, however, according to the Liverpool Echo, the Norwegian is unlikely to follow up his initial interest having been deterred by the Toffee’s £35m valuation.

The Merseyside club are keen to hold onto the Senegal international, who has emerged as one of the Premier League‘s finest defensive midfielders since joining from Aston Villa in 2016.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain saw two bids for Gueye rejected in January, the second being in the region of £26m.

Gueye currently has three years remaining on his deal at Goodison Park, leaving Everton in a strong position to demand a significant fee for a player they are reluctant to lose.
