Manchester United full back Matteo Darmian is set to leave the club disappointing spell at the club.

Darmian was brought in by former United boss Louis van Gaal in the summer of 2015, making 39 appearances in his first season at the club.

However, the arrival of Jose Mourinho the following summer saw the Italian’s opportunities become more restricted, playing in less than half of the club’s Premier League games. He has seen his chances further limited this season, starting just two games in the league and a further two in the Champions League.

According to a number of reports, Manchester United want to offload the full back in January, with a number of clubs in Italy interested in signing him.

Napoli are being strongly linked with making a move, although United are said to be wanting £17m for the defenders services. Italian champions Juventus are also claimed to be interested, and United could use their interest to boost their own chances of signing left back Alex Sandro.

Darmian was involved in Wednesday evenings defeat to Bristol City in the Carabao Cup, with both goals coming down the United’s right, the side 28-year-old was playing.
