Manchester United ‘comfortable’ with permanent Carrick appointment

Michael Carrick will be appointed Manchester United manager permanently, if the club secure Champions League qualification.

Carrick has led the Red Devils to third in the table since replacing Ruben Amorim on an interim basis, winning seven of his 11 games in charge.

Despite defeat to Leeds on Monday night, United remain well positioned to secure a return to UEFA’s top club competition. Should that feat be achieved, journalist Andy Mitten has said Carrick will be appointed permanently.

Speaking to the Talk of the Devils podcast, Mitten said Carrick’s performance so far, and complications regarding other candidates, work in his favour.

“Nothing has changed. If he takes Manchester United into the Champions League, he will keep the job,” Mitten said.

“Manchester United have been and will continue to do their due diligence over the managerial possibilities, where coaches are likely to be in one years time, two years time and that’s exactly what they should be doing.

“The way it is at the moment, it works in Carrick’s favour. Some of the people, for various reasons, World Cup or whatever, will not be available. People are pretty comfortable with Carrick, but he needs to get that Champions League.”
