Manchester United believe young centre-back duo Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven can develop into a world-class partnership.
Yoro and Heaven helped Manchester United to a 1-0 win at Chelsea last weekend to boost the club’s Champions League ambitions.
Despite a combined age of just 39, the pair recorded a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge with Heaven particularly impressive on only his 11th Premier League start.
According to The Athletic, there is optimism at Old Trafford that the pair can be the club’s long-term defensive duo.
There is understood to be belief at Manchester United that the pair can become as good as Arsenal’s Gabriel Maghalaes and William Saliba, widely regarded as the Premier League’s best centre-back pairing.
Despite the belief in their potential, United are also assessing the market for a centre-back signing.
With doubts over Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez after injury-hit campaigns, and the increase in fixtures from European competition next season, options are being assessed to complement the current group.
