Jose Mourinho has said that Alexis Sanchez will be out for ‘a long time’ after suffering a hamstring injury in training.
The Chilean has had a miserable time since arriving at Manchester United, where he has scored just four goals in almost 12 months at the club.
His form had shown signs of improving recently as he was afforded a chance to play through the middle in the place of the misfiring Romelu Lukaku, but has been missing from the last few matches after his form took yet another dip.
However, the former Arsenal forward looks like spending the rest of 2018 on the treatment table after picking up an ‘aggressive’ injury during a training session on Thursday.
“It is an aggressive muscular injury,” Jose Mourinho told his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekends clash with Southampton.
“He has not had a scan yet but the player is experienced. He knows what injury is.
“From my experience, the painful scream and way it happened, it will be a long time.
“It is not a little muscular injury that he will be ready in a week or 10 days. For me and Alexis Sanchez, the grade is different to the one that Lindelof has and that was not easy.”
