Manchester City XI vs RB Leipzig – Predicted lineup and team news

Manchester City travel to RB Leipzig on Wednesday in the fourth round of the Champions League league phase.

Manchester City travel to RB Leipzig on Wednesday in the fourth round of the Champions League league phase.

City are 10th in the league phase with six points from three matches, after beating Porto and AEK Athens either side of a 4-2 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. They have lost their last two Premier League matches, 2-1 at Aston Villa and 1-0 at home to Brighton, conceding inside the opening 15 minutes in the latter. Leipzig are 29th on three points and are coached by former City defender Martín Demichelis. The clubs last met in November 2023, when City came from two goals down to win 3-2.

Manchester City team news

Antoine Semenyo (knee) is City’s only injury absentee and is expected to target a return in mid-December. Rotation is expected, with Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden, who scored a hat-trick against AEK Athens, strong contenders to start. At least one of Ayyoub Bouaddi, Enzo Fernández or Elliot Anderson could make way as a result.

Marc Guehi is pushing to start in central defence alongside Abdukodir Khusanov or Rúben Dias, and Nico O’Reilly could replace Joško Gvardiol at left-back. Erling Haaland has scored 12 goals in eight games against Leipzig, including five in the 7-0 win in the 2023 last-16 second leg, and is expected to lead the line. Leipzig are without Assan Ouédraogo (shoulder) and Marc Guiu (muscle), with Maxime Estève doubtful and Christopher Nkunku an unused substitute against Schalke.

Manchester City predicted lineup

Manchester City possible starting XI: Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guehi, O’Reilly; Anderson, Fernández; Foden, Cherki, Doku; Haaland
