Manchester City host Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend, in an early-season clash with high stakes.
Pep Guardiola’s team remain the side to beat in the Premier League and are targeting an unprecedented fifth consecutive league title, though the Citizens know Arsenal are close in the rear-view mirror.
The Gunners have fallen agonisingly short in their quest for the title over the last two seasons, with Mikel Arteta’s team narrow runners-up in each of the last two campaigns. Their fixture at the Etihad on Sunday provides each team with a chance to make a statement and underlined their championship credentials for 2024/25.
“These guys don’t want to beat us, they just want to draw…”
After @ManCity won the title by two points last season, Rodri referenced the 0-0 home draw to Arsenal that gave him confidence.

Last season, Rodri questioned the mentality of Arsenal after a goalless draw in this fixture, comments that will not have been forgotten in North London. Will Arsenal be more adventurous this time around?
Manchester City vs Arsenal – Predicted lineup and team news
Manchester City team news
Manchester City could be without the services of Kevin De Bruyne after the club’s chief creator picked up a groin issue against Inter Milan in midweek. Pep Guardiola cast doubt on De Bruyne’s involvement after the 33-year-old sustained the problem in the goalless draw with the Italian champions at the Etihad.
His absence would be a big blow to the Blues, with De Bruyne boasting an impressive record against Arsenal. In 15 appearances against the North London side, he has scored eight times and has provided four assists.
Oscar Bobb (leg) and Nathan Ake (thigh) remain on the treatment table for the Citizens, though Rodri and Phil Foden could return to the XI.
The duo have been handed additional rest during the season’s opening weeks after reaching the final of Euro 2024 in the summer, though Guardiola will not want to be without two of his most influential figures for this one. A decision will also be made on whether to recall Kyle Walker at right-back with Rico Lewis an impressive performer in the club captain’s absence.
Manchester City predicted line up
Predicted Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Lewis, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Rodri, Kovacic, Silva; Foden, Grealish, Haaland.
