Manchester City have seemingly missed out on one of their January transfer targets after Bundesliga club Schalke announced a deal to sign Holger Badstuber.

The Bayern Munich defender has moved to Schalke on a six month loan deal after falling further down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena following the arrival of Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

The defender has been linked with a transfer to Manchester City where he would be reunited with former Bayern Munich boss, Pep Guardiola, although the Catalan manager denied all links with the defender earlier this week.

His denial seems to have been truthful following the news that Badstuber has completed a transfer to the fellow German club.
