Manchester City and Liverpool will battle it out to sign Southampton left back Ryan Bertrand this summer according to reports.
ESPN are reporting that both clubs have identified Bertrand as a potential solution to their problematic left back position.
Manchester City have the ageing defenders of Gael Clichy and Alex Kolarov as their main options, whilst Liverpool have played right sided midfielder James Milner at left back ahead of Alberto Moreno.
The former Chelsea left back Bertrand has excelled at Southampton since his move there in 2015, when he replaced Manchester United bound Luke Shaw.
Since then he has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the club, and has become a regular member of the England setup.
Despite being reluctant to lose the 27-year-old, Southampton find it difficult to reject a large offer, especially considering they have decent cover in that department to Sam McQueen and Matt Targett.
Both clubs in Liverpool and Manchester City are so far on target to achieve Champions League football next season, so it could come down to who offers the best financial package to a player that is surely at the last opportunity in his career to make a big move.
Should Bertrand stay at Southampton? If he leaves, where would best suit his career? Leave us a comment with your thoughts.
