Man Utd to splash the cash again on £35m midfielder

Days after landing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in one of the most intriguing deals of all time, Manchester United are being linked with splashing the cash once again.

United moved to sign the now former Arsenal forward Sanchez right from under the noses of Manchester City, despite the Cityzens having been favourites to land the Chilean since late last season.

With that deal all wrapped up, it is thought that United could enter the market again before next Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

According to The Sun, United are extremely keen on landing Nice midfielder Jean Michel Seri. Seri was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer, but the Ligue 1 club dug in their heels and kept hold of the Ivory Coast midfielder. Barcelona ultimately made a shock move to sign former Spurs flop Paulinho.

26-year-old Seri, who has also been linked to the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea Man City and Everton, is wanted by Jose Mourinho as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick, who has announced he will be retiring and joining the club’s coaching staff at the end of the season.

United have also shown interest in Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, Fred, although it is thought that the Brazilian is set to join Manchester City.

If United were to make a move for the Nice midfielder, they could pick him up for the relatively modest £35m thanks to a release clause in his contract, which has just 18 months remaining.
