There has been a lot of chatter about the future of Anthony Martial at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho, but reports today suggest that his time at the club may be edging towards its end.
The Frenchman has found opportunities difficult to come by at Old Trafford since Mourinho’s arrival in 2016, despite finishing as the club’s top scorer in his debut campaign in the Premier League.
While he may not be first choice at United, there are plenty of clubs who are interested in his services, with Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, PSG and Juventus all having being linked in recent months.
The latest story regarding the youngster is that he will be allowed to leave the club this summer, but only on Manchester United’s terms.
The Sunday Mirror claims that while a number of Manchester United’s hierarchy are against Martial leaving, Jose Mourinho would be willing to sanction his departure if he were to be able to get one of his main transfer targets in return, Chelsea winger, Willian.
Jose has long been an admirer of the Brazilian having worked with him at Stamford Bridge after stealing in to sign him from under the noses of Tottenham.
Willian was one of the only players who didn’t down tools in Mourinho’s final season at Chelsea, and the pair are known to be big admirers of each other. After already selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United last summer, Chelsea have been reluctant to allow another key player to move to join their former boss at Old Trafford.
The article claims Manchester United value Anthony Martial at around £80 million, while Willian’s market value is around £40m, meaning United would accept a £40m bid plus Willian in exchange for their number 11.
