Ten Hag ignores ‘noise’ as Man United pick up big win over Chelsea

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says he doesn’t “care about the noise” surrounding the club as his side beat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring in a first half which the Red Devils dominated, but both sides were even at the break when Cole Palmer scored in the 45th minute.

The Scot grabbed his brace in the second half after heading home a perfect cross from Alejandro Garnacho, leaving the manager satisfied with the team’s display in the end.

“I can always have complaints but we are pleased with the result and the performance,” Ten Hag told BBC Match of the Day. “We deserved this. We wanted to send this message to crowd but this is also our style. In the first 30 minutes we did it perfectly on the pitch.”

The Dutchman has come under pressure in recent weeks following poor performances and reports that he has lost the confidence of half the dressing room.

“I don’t care about the noise,” he insisted. “They are used to it. It was the same at Ajax but in a smaller country so less people.”

Ten Hag marked out McTominay for praise for his role in the win. “He did great. He had an important role to play. He is a very good player. He stopped Chelsea with Antony. In possession he was very dynamic. He scored two and could have had more.”

He added: “When you are not on top form on the day, you get beaten. You need to be at your best. When you are not, you get killed. We know that and we need the right attitude every game.”
