Manchester United have been told that one of their primary transfer targets of the summer is not for sale, at any price.
Jose Mourinho has tasked Chief Executive Ed Woodward to sign at least four players this summer, a defender, midfielder, striker and a creative player. With Victor Lindelof already signed, and Romelu Lukaku pretty much confirming the deal to move to Manchester United is also complete, United are now looking to sign a defensive minded midfielder.
With Michael Carrick in the twilight of his career, and having sold Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin ring the last six months, Manchester United’s midfield numbers are thin to say the least. They have been linked with a number of midfielders, including Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, Monaco’s Fabinho, and Spurs and England midfielder Eric Dier.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have told Manchester United that Eric Dier is not for sale at any price, after reports suggesting that the Red Devil’s would make a £50m move for the 23-year-old.
Dier wasn’t as much of a regular fixture in the Spurs squad last season, with Victor Wanyama and Moussa Dembele the preferred starting options in the centre of midfield.
However he is still highly regarded by Mauricio Pochettino who have told Manchester United that they will not entertain any offers for the former Sporting Lisbon player.
