Man Utd star set to sign new contract

Well here is a story I didn’t think I would have been writing a few months ago, but reports today suggest that Luke Shaw is set to sign a new contract at Manchester United.

Few players have flopped so hard under Jose Mourinho and lived to tell the tale, but Luke Shaw seems to be about to be an exception to the rule. The former Southampton full back has made a slow start to his Manchester United career due to a number of injuries and poor form, and that was even before Jose Mourinho arrived.

The Portuguese has repeatedly questioned the 22-year-old’s footballing intelligence, even once claiming that he had to tell him exactly what to do at every moment during a particular match.

Shaw, who didn’t make his first Premier League appearance this season until 13th December, has been linked with a number of moves away from the club. United meanwhile have been linked to the likes of Danny Rose and Alex Sandro as long term replacements for the youngster.

However, since then, he has gone on to make nine appearances and is putting up a serious challenge to be the first choice left back for the club, with Jose Mourinho saying recently that he is one of the best left backs in the world.

Now, according to the Daily Mirror, he is set to sign a new deal at Old Trafford after finally convincing Mourinho that he can finally fulfil his potential.

His current deal was set to expire in the summer, although United have already triggered to extend that by a further year, but it seems as though they are preparing to keep him for even longer than that, with a new ‘long term’ deal set to be signed before the end of the campaign.
