Manchester United are reportedly having a rethink over their public pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said to be more interested in making a move for compatriot Erling Haaland.
The Red Devils are currently in the midst of an excellent run of form in the Premier League, with their ten-game unbeaten run leaving them in second place in the table and level on points with last season’s title winners Liverpool.
Despite that improved run of results, the interest in potential arrivals at Old Trafford has not gone away, as attention turns to possible incomings either in the recently opened January transfer window, or more likely in the summer.
The previous window saw Manchester United bring in former Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, veteran marksman Edinson Cavani and Porto left-back Alex Telles, as well as snapping up highly-rated Uruguayan youngster Facundo Pellistri.
While Cavani and Telles in particular have turned out some promising displays, the overriding feeling among the United fanbase was that of disappointment at the close of the summer window, with the club failing to bring in Dortmund starlet Sancho despite public and protracted negotiations.
At one point, former Manchester City youth team player looked all but certain to be making the move to Old Trafford following some mightily impressive showings in the Bundesliga and Champions League over the last few seasons, yet United were unwilling to meet the German side’s €120 million asking price, particularly in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and its financial ramifications.

Now, however, according to the Sunday Mirror, United may be turning their attention elsewhere after ‘rethinking’ their pursuit of the England international, with Solskjaer said to be ‘keener’ on a move Sancho’s superstar teammate Haaland.
The Norwegian hotshot burst onto the scene with Red Bull Salzburg during last season’s Champions League group stage phase, before making the move to Signal Iduna Park in January, despite interest from clubs around Europe.
At the time, United were heavily linked with making a move for the lethal striker, with Haaland having previously played under Solskjaer at Molde.
That connection appears to be the focus of United’s transfer ‘rethink’, as they reportedly contemplate pursuing Haaland rather than the talented Sancho, with the latter man also struggling replicate his usual stunning form this term with no goals and just three assists in 11 Bundesliga outings this season.
One issue which may complicate a deal for the Norway international is the turbulent relationship between the player’s agent Mino Raiola and United following the Paul Pogba saga, with the club potentially unwilling to do dealings with the controversial Italian.
