Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has been offered a ‘lucrative’ deal that could see him return to Spain this summer.
The Basque midfielder moved to Old Trafford in 2014, becoming the first signing of then newly appointed boss Louis van Gaal.
During his four years at the club, he has gained a reputation as a tenacious and energetic player, as well as becoming a favourite among Man Utd fans thanks to his infectious positivity and apparent love for the club.
Despite this though, he could be about to see himself slide down the pecking order at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils already announcing a deal go sign Brazilian midfielder Fred, and could be in the market for another midfielder should Marouane Fellaini leave the club as expected this summer.
According to reports in Spain though, he could be offered a ‘lucrative’ deal that could see him return to former club Athletic Club Bilbao.
Spanish publication AS are reporting that Bilbao are interested in the 28-year-old returning to the San Mames and are willing to make him their highest-paid player according to the report.
While United are believed to be willing listen to their offer, Mourinho is reportedly unhappy at the idea of losing Herrera without a replacement being identified, especially having already lost Michael Carrick
Bilbao are also unlikely to be able to have the money to tempt United to sell this summer, so may have to wait 12 months until Herrera’s contract comes to an end.
