Man Utd, Liverpool and Real Madrid on red alert as Spurs decide to cash in

Manchester United and Liverpool fans have been placed on red alert with the news that Tottenham have decided to to cash in on Toby Alderweireld.

The defender, who currently earns the relatively modest sum of £50,000-a-week has reportedly asked for his wages to be tripled to £150,000-a-week, a figure that Spurs are unwilling match. It is thought the board only willing to sanction a salary of £110,000-a-week.

The Belgian has recently returned to action with a hamstring injury which has kept him out of action for three months. Despite playing for 90 minutes in the recent victory over Newport Town, but was subsequently left out of the sides 18 man squad for Spurs’ Champions League tie against Juventus last week.

Now, according to The Times, the North London club are ready to cut their losses and cash in on the 28-year-old.

Alderweireld has a £25m release clause in his contract and has attracted the attention of Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Jose Mourinho is no stranger to signing more experienced players, having brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nemanja Matic to the club in the last two summers.

Manchester United’s defence has come in for plenty of criticism in recent weeks, with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones feeling the brunt of the majority of the flack following recent displays.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s defence has been under scrutiny for a number of years, and they could be interested in getting a defensive partner for £75m Man, Virgil van Dijk.
