Manchester United are being linked with a ridiculous offer for James Maddison, the club reportedly considering proposing a deal worth £45m and Jesse Lingard for the in-demand Leicester midfielder.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been strongly linked with a move for Maddison in recent months, the 23-year-old having starred during the Foxes’ charge into the Champions League places and earning his first senior cap for Gareth Southgate’s England side.
According to the Mirror, United are desperate to lure the playmaker to Old Trafford as they seek to solve their lack of creativity, with the club preparing a bizarre offer including Lingard as a potential makeweight.
Lingard has become an increasingly maligned figure at the club and failed to register a single goal or assist in the Premier League during 2019, the 27-year-old having lost his place in the England squad as a result of his poor form and lack of contribution.
By contrast, Maddison has emerged as one of the most influential creators in the top flight, creating more chances than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues during a memorable debut campaign at the King Power Stadium last term and beginning the new season in a similar fashion.
Despite the Lingard’s well-documented struggles, Manchester United are believed to value the academy graduate at around £40m and believe the inclusion of the midfielder in any potential deal for Maddison could be enough to persuade Leicester to part with their prized asset.
