Man Utd consider cut price deal to re-sign defender

Manchester United are considering making a move to re-sign defender Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion according to reports.

The defender left Old Trafford back in 2015 after he wasn’t fancied by former United boss Louis van Gaal, who cashed in on the academy product for a fairly modest £6 million.

He has gone on to re-establish himself in the Premier League, and has been linked with a number of clubs in recent transfer windows, including Manchester City, Arsenal and Leicester.

Some of the transfer fees that have been speculation alongside these rumours have been north of £15 million, with some even saying that West Brom were holding out for £25m – a bid which never arrived.

However with the Baggies on the brink of relegation from the Premier League, the 30-year-old will be available for the cut-price fee of just £3m thanks to a clause in the Northern Ireland captain’s contract, something which could prompt Manchester United to make a move.

United have had a number of issues at centre back, with Eric Bailly seeming to suffer from a number of injuries, while Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind have also spent significant time on the sidelines this season.
