Manchester United and Arsenal target Justin Kluivert has said he will not be renewing his contract at Ajax after the club tried to sell him behind his back.
The young Dutch ace is one of hottest properties in the Eredivisie, and has been heavily linked with a move to either Man Utd or Barcelona, where he could follow in the footsteps of his father, iconic striker, Patrick Kluivert.
Kluivert has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Johan Cruyff Arena and Ajax have publicly said they want him to sign a contract extension. But in an incredible interview, he has claimed that he wont be extending his deal, fearing that the club only want to do so to drive his transfer value up:
“But Ajax wants me to extend my contract so that they can ask more,” Kluivert told Volkskrant.
“What do they really want? My plan was to stay, but a lot has happened lately.
“The public thinks that it is only about money, while everyone knows that I was right.
“I was not waiting for money at all. Football is important. I want to develop myself.
“The most important thing for Ajax is that I extend my contract. Then it’s not about football, but about money.”
He has also incredibly revealed that Ajax tried to flog him without his knowledge to Tottenham last summer for £20 million, as part of the deal which saw Davinson Sanchez move to the Premier League side:
“I’m not renewing my contract at Ajax,” he added.
“The decreasing morale, lack of confidence, trying to sell me to Tottenham without me knowing. I heard that at the last minute.
“That says nothing about Ajax, but about the people in the club. Somewhere it was laughing.
“You see how the football world works. If you get a little higher, it looks like a game.
“They do what they want. I now get that feeling again, they do what they want.”
