Manchester United are among the top clubs monitoring £80million-rated Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic according to reports.
The Serbian midfielder has been on United’s radar for a number of months, but reports in recent weeks have suggested that Real Madrid are also interested
Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring in at least one new midfielder this summer, with Michael Carrick set to retire and Marouane Fellaini looking increasingly likely to leave on a free transfer.
There are also doubts over the long-term future of club record signing Paul Pogba, so Mourinho has made strengthening his midfield a priority in the summer transfer window.
United sent spies to Rome on Thursday to watch the 22-year-old Savic in action in the Europa League against Steaua Bucharest, but were left disappointed after he was an unused substitute in 5-1 win. They have however been linked with his Lazio teammate Stefan de Vrij, so it wasn’t a completely wasted journey.
Milinkovic-Savic is one of just a number of midfielders linked with a move to Old Trafford. They have been linked with Nice’s Jean Michael Seri, Napoli midfielder Jorginho as well as Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos.
