Manchester City ran out 2-1 winners over their city rivals Manchester United to extend their lead at the top of the table to 11 points. Guardiola’s side were the dominate side, but in the end the game was ultimately decided by errors.
Were City worthy winners? Were United well beaten? See how the players rated below.
De Gea 6.5
Couldn’t do much about either goal as he was left so exposed for both. Still made a number of decent saves to keep his side in the game.
Fine, fairly unspectacular. Worked his line well and obviously had a lot to do defensively which meant he was very conservative when going forward.
Unlucky to see Lukaku’s hack ricochet off his leg and straight in to Otamendi’s path. Otherwise fairly solid.
Looked really up for the competition and smashed in to Silva to make his point but as often happens, he injured himself in the process. Subbed.
Fast becoming a very decent full back, got forward when he could and made some vital interceptions, a point off for playing Silva onside but he made up for it with the assist for Rashford.
Ander Herrera 5.5
Booked for what might have been a dive, didn’t do much else in the game.
Fairly solid, stopped City from being as fluid as they can be.
Probably United’s best attacking player, always looked to beat his man and get his side’s counter attack going. Faded in the second half.
Worked tirelessly, whether it was pressing City when United didn’t have the ball or running at them when they did, he didn’t give his opponents a moments rest.
Attacked his full back constantly and took his goal really well. Booked as he grew more and more frustrated.
Offered nothing going forward and his missed hack early in the second half put it on a plate for Otamendi.
Left exposed for Rashford’s goal but looked composed throughout the rest of the game. Made a superb double save from Lukaku and Mata to keep his side ahead.
Solid. Didn’t do much going forward, didn’t allow too much to happen at the back.
Misjudged Young’s cross which led to Rashford’s equaliser. Had his hands full defensively but took his goal well.
Only made it through one half, was clearly struggling. Not the player he used to be.
Messed up to allow Rashford in to score and never really looked assured as United’s front line ran him ragged.
Went to centre back for a few minutes in the second half and looked all at sea but was a willing runner and solid performer when back in his favoured central role.
Scored the opener and as always was at the heart of everything good City did. Left his foot in a few times too as the game started to heat up.
De Bruyne 7
Always a threat, seemed to be able to find space all over the park and had United back peddling on a number of occasions.
No goal today for the England international but a very mature performance. Attacked when he could and was always available. Killed the game for City as the time wore down.
A decent if unspectacular performance from the German winger.
Not the best game for the young forward, failed to make much of an impact and was substituted for tactical reasons.
Did a lot better than most of us expected.
Worked hard, but didn’t get on the ball as much as his team-mates.
