Man United are moving on to the next phase of their transfer plan after completing the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

The Cameroon international will move to Old Trafford this summer after both clubs agreed on a deal worth up to £71 million.

The Athletic report that United will pay an initial transfer fee of £65m, which will be paid in four instalments, plus an additional £6m in potential bonuses.

Once officially confirmed, Mbeumo will be the Red Devils’ third signing of summer following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.

But there is still a lot of business that Man United need to complete before the new Premier League campaign gets underway, to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad after an abysmal 2024/25 term.

The club’s plan, according to Fabrizio Romano, is to look for a new striker. That is their “main target”, but they will need to sell before buying.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon are on the list of players who could depart Man United this summer.

They have been linked with moves for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres and Eintracht Frankfurt centre-forward Hugo Ekitike, but both of those players could be headed to other Premier League teams. Gyokeres is determined to join Arsenal, while Liverpool and Newcastle United are battling it out for Ekitike.

There is concern among the fanbase that the club have already spent over £130m at minimum on new signings, but are yet to address key areas in the squad. They have no signed any new midfielders, nor have they brought in wing-backs to fit into Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.
