Man United set to make £50-60 million opening bid for Mason Mount

Manchester United are set to make an opening offer for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, with the club’s first proposal set to be in the region of £50-£60m.

Mount is a top target as Erik ten Hag looks to bring in a mobile number eight this summer and United are keen to capitalise on the midfielder’s contract situation at Chelsea.

The 24-year-old has just one year to run on his contract in west London and Chelsea are reluctant to run the risk of losing Mount on a free transfer, following a breakdown in talks over a renewal.

Chelsea value Mount at around £70m plus add-ons, but The Times are reporting that United’s opening bid will be short of that figure.

The Red Devils are set to table a bid between £50m and £60m as Ten Hag looks to complete his first signing of the summer and strengthen the squad ahead of the club’s Champions League return.

Mount was named as Chelsea’s Player of the Season in 2020/21 and 2021/22, but is expected to depart after feeling undervalued during contract negotiations. The midfielder has made 195 appearances in all competitions since progressing from the Chelsea academy, in which he has scored 33 goals.
