Man United discuss Nkunku move as Chelsea ‘remain keen’ on Garnacho

Man United are reportedly discussing the possibility of making a loan move for wantaway Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku.ย

The Red Devils are looking to improve their frontline in the January transfer window having scored just 27 goals in 22 Premier League matches, the joint sixth-lowest tally in the division.

Nkunku is seeking a way out of Stamford Bridge after making just three starts in the top flight since manager Enzo Maresca took the reins. He has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, while PSG are also said to be interested in signing the France international.

Man United discuss Nkunku move, Chelsea ‘keen’ on Garnacho

Man United this week emerged as a possible destination for Nkunku and the club are “discussing internally” a potential loan deal, according to Sky Sports News.

It has been claimed that, while Chelsea would rather not sell the 27-year-old, they would be “tempted” to do business for ยฃ70 million. However, a permanent transfer is “highly, highly unlikely” at this interval.

Man United are restricted in the transfer market due to Financial Fair Play and would consider selling some of their academy products, including Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine winger has been linked with the Blues and Napoli, both of whom “remain keen” on signing the player this month. The Serie A outfit are looking to sign a new wide attacker after selling Kvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG.

Manager Ruben Amorim addressed Garnacho’s future when he was asked during the week if the 20-year-old had played his last game for the club.

“He’s playing for Manchester United,” he said after the 2-1 win over Rangers in the Uefa Europa League. “He was really important for us today. Let’s see in the next days.

“I think he’s improving in every aspect of the game. He was better today playing inside and also outside, changing positions. He’s improving the recovery position. You can see it.

“For the whole 90 minutes, he’s always there recovering and helping. Sometimes showing some frustration is really good because he wants more.”

Antony has left Man United to join Real Betis on loan until the end of the season, while Marcus Rashford is still looking for a move elsewhere before the transfer window shuts.

Maresca this week discussed Nkunku’s lack of gametime and the possibility of either him or Joao Felix leaving Chelsea. โ€œWith Joao and Christo, most managers only play one attacking midfielder,” he said.

“They are top players, I like both, they struggle because most of the time we only play with one attacking midfielder. I am not saying they will leave.โ€
