Manchester United are today being linked with a £131 million move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
The Express report that if the Spain international does move to Old Trafford it will be as a replacement for the club’s record signing Paul Pogba.
Niguez came through the youth ranks at Atletico and has been a key member of Diego Simeone’s side that has been so impressive in the Champions League and La Liga in recent years.
The 23-year-old, as you would expect from a Spain international, is a technically superb footballer with a wand of a left foot.
However after spending many seasons under the stewardship of Simeone he also possesses the type of work-rate and tactical discipline that Jose Mourinho demands from his players.
If Niguez’s arrival in Manchester does bring an end to Pogba’s second spell at Old Trafford it will surely be a massive embarrassment for the club.
United paid Juventus a then world record £89 million to re-sign Pogba from Juventus in the summer of 2016, having allowed him to move to Italy for free as a teenager.
The France international has however, failed to live up to his billing as one of the world’s best midfielders since arriving back in England.
