Man United set to make Ashworth bid following Newcastle decision

Manchester United will reportedly make a ‘formal proposal’ to sign Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United soon.

The highly-regarded sporting director has been placed on gardening leave by the Magpies after informing the club on Sunday he wants to leave St James’ Park.

Newcastle will continue to pay his salary in order to stop him from working for their Premier League rivals and will seek compensation in the region of £20 million for his services, according to The Athletic, as he is still under contract.

Man United will approach Newcastle to make a formal offer for Ashworth and ‘negotiate’ a compensation package with the club, reports transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to be keen on poaching Ashworth from Newcastle and put him in charge of transfer strategy at Old Trafford as part of his overhaul of football operations.

The British billionaire’s company, INEOS, have received approval from the FA to move forward with their bid to buy a 25 percent stake in Man United.

Ashworth is a well respected figure in the game following his work at West Brom, the FA, Brighton and Newcastle.
