Erik ten Hag said Manchester United are aiming to win the FA Cup this season after progressing to the fourth round with a 2-0 win at Wigan.
The Dutchman chose to field a strong side at the DW Stadium and was rewarded with a convincing performance as the Red Devils dominated their third-tier opponents.
Diogo Dalot opened the scoring midway through the first half, before a Bruno Fernandes penalty wrapped up the win and earned United a fourth-round date with either non-league Eastleigh or Newport County.
Ten Hag was pleased with the performance from his team and called the FA Cup a ‘massive competition’, stating his intent to win the tournament after defeat in last season’s final.
“It’s all about the win,” the Dutchman said, as per the BBC.
“In the first half the way we played, how we worked the ball and created a lot of chances, was pleasing to see.
“We should’ve scored more but the good thing is we created the chances. We have so many [players out with] illness or injured and we still had quite a good side.
“We were confident of winning this game and we would never underestimate an opponent. We knew they would fight for their lives as it was the game of their lives but we took the game well.
“This is a massive competition and everyone wants to win it, every manager is eager to win it so we took it seriously.”
