Man United and Inter ‘close to agreeing’ fee for Onana

Manchester United are close to agreeing a deal with Inter Milan for goalkeeper Andre Onana, with the clubs nearing an agreement on a €55m fee.

The two clubs have been in negotiations over a deal for the Cameroon international and are now closing in on an agreement, with United’s final bid worth an initial €50m with a further €5m in add-ons.

The Guardian are reporting that it is ‘likely a deal will be done’ after a breakthrough in discussions, with only the structure of the payments still to be determined.

Onana’s arrival will be a major boost for Erik ten Hag, who previously coached the 27-year-old at Ajax. Onana shone during an impressive debut campaign at Inter Milan last season, leading the Champions League for saves and clean sheets as the Italian side reached the final.

He will become Manchester United’s second arrival of the transfer window after the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea and will replace David de Gea as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, after the Spaniard departed at the end of his contract earlier this month.

Ten Hag is also keen to sign a centre-forward before the transfer window’s closure and the Red Devils have been in talks with Atalanta over a deal for Rasmus Hojland.
