Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has been dominating the transfer headlines for some months now, with Manchester United and Chelsea both heavily linked with a summer move for the highly-rated centre halve.
The Belgium international has established himself as one of Europes’s best centre-backs since moving to White Hart Lane from Atletico Madrid in 2015.
However, the 29-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs in recent months, amid reports that he has asked for wages that would break the London clubs strict wage structure.
Spurs legend Darren Anderton reckons the defender will definitely leave White Hart Lane this summer, while also admitting that on his day there a few better defenders in English football:
“I think [Toby] Alderweireld will leave Tottenham this summer,” Anderton told Bwin.
“Until his injury he was the best defender in the Premier League so his situation is definitely a problem for the club.
“He’s an unbelievable player and he has formed a fantastic partnership with [Jan] Vertonghen. Alderweireld will move on this summer because he wants to be paid what the best defenders earn and Tottenham won’t do that.
“Manchester United can afford to pay him far more money and he will massively boost their chances of winning the Premier League.”
