Man United and Chelsea reach Mason Mount agreement

Manchester United and Chelsea have finally reached an agreement regarding the transfer of Mason Mount.

The English midfielder has just one year remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge and has rejected a number of offers from his boyhood club, leaving him available to leave on a free in just 12 months time.

United have already seen three offers rejected for Mount, the latest worth £55 million, with Chelsea having said to have been holding out for £65m.

Rumours then emerged of Manchester United moving on from their interest in Mount, and targeting Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, a player who has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea.

That has seemingly tempted Chelsea back to the negotiation table, with David Ornstein of The Athletic reporting that the clubs have now agreed a deal worth an initial £55m, with a further £5m in add-ons.

He reports that Mount has been given permission to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms, with a contract until 2028 with the option for a further year having already been agreed.

Mount will become United’s first signing of the summer, while they have already made contact with Inter Milan over the signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The Red Devils reportedly have between £100m-£120m to spend this summer, plus whatever they can raise from player sales, with Erik ten Hag desperate to also sign a striker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo last November and the subsequent struggles of Anthony Martial and loanee Wout Weghorst.

Mount will leave Chelsea having made 195 appearances for the club since his first-team debut in 2017, scoring 33 goals and providing 37 assists.
