Manchester City make the trip to Portugal to face in-form Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League this week.
Pep Guardiola’s injury-hit side take on the Portuguese champions at the Estádio José Alvalade. Both teams are looking to maintain unbeaten starts in the Champions League, having taken seven points from three games in the league phase.
Sporting are in strong form domestically having opened the defence of their title with 10 wins from 10 games.
Guardiola will come face-to-face with a coach who will soon be much closer in competition. Ruben Amorim has been named as the new Manchester United manager, though will oversee Sporting’s games until November’s international break before his move to the Premier League.

There will also be a reunion for Matheus Nunes with his old side. The midfielder is in arguably the best form of his career since leaving Sporting Lisbon for England in 2023.
Manchester City XI vs Sporting – Predicted lineup and team news
Manchester City team news
Guardiola has called City’s current injury list the worst he has experienced in almost nine years in charge of the club. His stretched squad were beaten at Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend, in a clash that saw five academy graduates named on the bench.
There was positive news, however, with Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku, Kyle Walker and Savinho all returning to the squad.
The former has not featured since September due to a hamstring injury, while Savinho’s injury was not as bad as first feared after being stretchered off against Spurs last week. Walker, however, endured a difficult return to the team and could make way for Rico Lewis.
Manchester City predicted lineup
Manchester City predicted XI: Ederson; Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol; Silva, Kovacic, Gundogan; Doku, Haaland, Nunes.
