Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly ‘obsessed’ with signing Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer.
Guardiola is a big admirer of the Brazil international who has emerged as one of the most influential midfielders in the Premier League since arriving at St James’ Park.
The 26-year-old was an integral part of the club’s Champions League qualification for the first time in two decades last season and has been a huge hit in the North East.
Guimaraes has been linked with leaving Newcastle in the summer as the Magpies consider the sale of a leading asset to ease financial concerns.
Eddie Howe’s side recorded a post-tax loss of £73.4m for the 2022/23 season and Guimaraes has been mooted as a potential sale to remain compliant with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
The Brazilian is believed to have a release clause in the region of €100m (£85m) in his contract and Spanish outlet Fichajes claim that Manchester City are chasing a deal.
Kalvin Phillips is expected to leave the Citizens on a permanent basis in the summer after joining West Ham on loan in January and Guimaraes is viewed as the perfect addition to the treble-winner’s engine room, boasting an all-round game to perform in multiple roles when required.
City are not alone in expressing interest, however, with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Chelsea having all tracked his progress in the Premier League.
