Manchester City reportedly made an enquiry to sign Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister in the summer.
Mac Allister’s future at Liverpool is up in the air after the midfielder revealed this week that the club had told him they were not in a position to give him a new contract.
“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract which, of course, makes me very, very sad,” said the 27-year-old.
“Everyone can see that I give my 100% for this football club every single day in training and games. Of course, I can have very good games [and] bad games, like everyone, but I always give my best.
“I see Dominik [Szoboszlai] and Ryan [Gravenberch] renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it. At the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine. Of course, there is still time. The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100% until the last day I am here.”
The Argentina international’s current deal runs until 2028 and his future will be assessed next summer. According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool plan to add another midfielder next summer and will then make a call on Mac Allister.
Manchester City made an enquiry about the World Cup winner in the summer, as the Cityzens sought to rebuild their midfield. City instead signed Elliot Anderson, Ayyoub Bouaddi, and Enzo Fernandez.
Earlier this week, Mac Allister confirmed there were ‘options’ to leave but said, for now, he is at the right club.
“There were options to leave this summer. I think right now I’m in the right club and I have the right mindset to give 100% for this club.”
