Manchester City have reportedly emerged as the clear favourites to sign Jack Grealish this summer, with the club considering a move to land the Aston Villa captain.
Grealish is currently being courted by the Premier League‘s biggest sides following an outstanding season this term, the midfielder having developed into one of the division’s finest creative talents since Villa’s return to the top division.
Manchester United were linked with a move for the 25-year-old last summer before baulking at the demands of Dean Smith’s side, and Grealish’s valuation has only increased following his starring displays this term.
Grealish has scored six goals and provided a further 10 assists in the Premier League this season, whilst he leads the division for progressive carries, fouls drawn and goal-creating actions per 90 minutes.
Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the England international earlier in the campaign and described Grealish as an ‘exceptional player’, with the Daily Mail reporting that City have now emerged as favourites in the race for his signature.
Villa will be hopeful of keeping the player – who signed a new five-year deal last summer – following the club’s progress this season, and it will likely take a huge bid to persuade the club to part with their prized asset, the Mail suggesting a figure of £100 million.
Grealish, however, may feel he must leave his boyhood side to fulfil his ambitions of winning major silverware and there are few squads in European football as equipped to compete for the game’s biggest prizes.
