Manchester City are exploring a move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez as they prepare for the possibility of Rodri leaving for Barcelona.
The Independent reports that City have begun assessing the prospect of signing the Argentina international, who is highly regarded by new manager Enzo Maresca, following their time together at Chelsea.
Rodri is understood to favour a move to Barcelona over Real Madrid, with the Spain international’s future increasingly uncertain. Barcelona have now made a £38.5m offer for the midfielder, although City are seeking at least £60m.
Fernandez, 25, is therefore emerging as one of City’s options as they consider how to reshape their midfield. The club have already signed Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m, while Bernardo Silva is also expected to leave for Real Madrid.

Chelsea value Fernandez at around £120m, according to the Independent, which could make a deal difficult. The midfielder joined the Blues from Benfica for £106m in January 2023 and enjoyed a strong campaign last season, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists in all competitions.
Fernandez has primarily operated as either a No 10 or box-to-box midfielder, although City could consider using him in a deeper role if a move materialises.
Chelsea are understood to want to keep Fernandez as part of Xabi Alonso’s rebuild, meaning City would need to convince the London club to sell.
The midfielder has yet to return to Chelsea training following his World Cup commitments, but posted footage of himself training individually as he prepares to report back next week.
City are also considering Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi as they assess their options in the centre of the pitch.
