Major blow for Arsenal and Chelsea as managerial target set for PSG move

Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a major blow as one of their main candidates to become their next managers is being linked with taking over at Paris Saint Germain.

Arsene Wenger’s future is thought to be in doubt after what has been yet another dismal season in charge of the Gunners, who currently sit in sixth position, 13 points behind Tottenham and well out of the race for the top four.

They can still of course achieve Champions League football next season by winning the Europa League, and they still have a shout of doing that after last nights 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the quarter-final first leg.

However, should Arsenal fail to claim their first European trophy, it is widely thought that this could be Wenger’s final season at the club.

Elsewhere in London, Antonio Conte is widely expected to leave Chelsea having also had a miserable campaign. Defeat against Spurs last weekend saw the Blues side eight points behind the top four and virtually out of the race to secure Champions League football.

There have been a whole host of managers who have been linked with a move to wither the Emirate or Stamford Bridge, with former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel thought to be one of the leading candidates for both clubs.

However any hope they have of luring him to the Premier League may have been handed a blow, with ESPN reporting that the German is set to replace Unai Emery at PSG.

Aside from last season, PSG are generally unchallenged in Ligue 1, with the clubs Qatari owners desperate to claim the Champions League.

Despite cruising through their group, the French champions elect fell at the first hurdle in the knockout stages, losing to perennial European kings Real Madrid in the round of 16.

The report claims that Tuchel has met with PSG owner Al Khelaifi, who has decided that the former Dortmund boss is the man to lead his side next season.
