Riyad Mahrez was happy with his contribution as Manchester City thrashed Cardiff today, in South Wales.

Mahrez replaced Sergio Aguero just after the hour-mark and went on to score two goals as Pep Guardiola’s team returned to winning ways after their midweek Champions League disappointment against Lyon.

“We know it was difficult to play after the Champions League game but the manager told us to be ready for this game because it’s never easy, especially away at Cardiff,” Mahrez told Premier League TV.

“We did well, we took the game from the beginning with the right intention and I think we deserved the victory.”

Algerian international, Mahrez, was unaware of his milestone, today. He appeared to be happier to have scored his first goals for Manchester City.

“I didn’t know I’d scored 50 goals in English football and I’m very happy to score my first goal for the team.

“It took a while to arrive but I knew it would come. I will try to help the team as much as I can.”

Mahrez has only started two games for City, so far, this season. He will be hoping that his performance today will possibly get him more game time as City’s fixture schedule becomes a lot busier between now and Christmas.
