Luiz hails Chelsea’s defensive display after narrow Crystal Palace win

Chelsea further consolidated their place in the top four with a hard fought 1-0 win away to Crystal Palace earlier today.

A left footed finish from midfielder N’Golo Kante in the 51st minute was enough to secure all three points and sees Maurizio Sarri’s side move five points clear of fifth place Arsenal in the table.

Speaking after the game Chelsea centre-back David Luiz hailed his sides defensive resolve against a direct Palace side.

“It is never easy to play here or control it here especially when they play long balls but we did well. We could have scored early but they also did a great match defensively which is why it was so difficult.’’ Luiz told Sky Sports.

It was the Brazilian defenders superb through ball which set Kante up for his goal and Luiz revealed it was something he has been working on in training.

“[The goal was about] the connection, about training every day and understanding the philosophy. I just tried to put the ball in and time it for his run.”

Next up for Chelsea is an away trip to Southampton.
