Georginio Wijnaldum has said he is expecting a tough encounter when Liverpool come face to face with their Merseyside foes Everton this weekend.
Everton would love nothing more than to put a serious dent in the Reds’ Premier League title ambitions when the two sides meet in the Merseyside Derby on Sunday.
Liverpool are currently top of the table, but their position is a precarious one as they lie just one point ahead of a rampant Manchester City, who have been in superb form so far in 2019.
When asked if the Toffees extra motivation to derail their campaign could impact the match, the midfielder said his teammates would not be lacking for motivation themselves.
“Yeah, but we want to defeat them badly too so it works two ways. I expect it’s going to be a big fight,” Wijnaldum told liverpoolfc.com.
“It will be a totally different atmosphere to a normal game, but we go there to play football and to hopefully enjoy it.
“You use it to spur you on. It’s great to win there. My first year here we won there. Then last year we had two draws in the league against Everton, and we beat them in the cup.
“The supporters really want to win this game, and so do we.”
