Liverpool seek a third successive Champions League win at Anfield on Tuesday, with changes expected in the fourth game of a 10-day run.
Andoni Iraola’s side beat Atletico Madrid 2-1, won 6-3 at LASK and then won 2-1 at Brentford on Saturday, a result that took them to fifth in the Premier League with 12 points. They host Brighton on Sunday, which is one reason Iraola is expected to rotate.
Villarreal, led by former Rayo Vallecano assistant Iñigo Pérez, beat Napoli 3-1 on matchday two and have won one of their six away matches this season.
Liverpool team news
Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong are out after going off with hamstring problems at Brentford. Iraola said Szoboszlai’s issue is “not a new one” and has not worsened, but that more patience is needed, and that getting Frimpong back before the November international break will be difficult. Hugo Ekitike (Achilles), Giovanni Leoni (anterior cruciate ligament) and Conor Bradley (knee) also remain out, and Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo are not in Liverpool’s league-phase squad.
Ryan Gravenberch is available after his domestic ban and is expected to replace Szoboszlai alongside Alexis Mac Allister. Alexander Isak returned to score the winner at Brentford and should lead the line, with Cody Gakpo, who was on the bench there, tipped to start on the right. Iraola hinted at changes because some players are not fresh enough, and Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas could come in at full-back. Florian Wirtz, who has been routinely trusted by Iraola, is expected to play behind Isak.
Liverpool predicted lineup
Liverpool possible starting XI: Alisson; Gomez, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Barcola, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak
