Liverpool vs Manchester City – Predicted lineup and team news

Liverpool host Premier League leaders Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon with two of their forwards unavailable. Andoni Iraola’s side are sixth and unbeaten (W2 D3).

City won all three meetings between the sides last season, including 2-1 at Anfield in February. Iraola said he would not offer an opinion on the verdict against City, adding that the uncertainty is the worst part and that his focus is Liverpool.

Liverpool team news

Alexander Isak (thigh) and Cody Gakpo (ankle) are out, Iraola confirmed, and he said neither injury looks long-term. Hugo Ekitike (Achilles), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni (knee) are also unavailable. Federico Chiesa has resumed training but is unlikely to be involved. Lewis Koumas, 21, is the natural alternative at number nine, with six senior appearances.

Jeremy Jacquet is fit after a minor injury scare with France and is expected to start in an unchanged defence of Alisson, Araujo, Van Dijk and Kerkez. Bradley Barcola, who has played on the left wing and as a striker, is expected to lead the attack, with Iraola saying he can cover three positions in the front line. That would allow Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz to start on the flanks either side of Florian Wirtz. Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister are expected to keep their midfield places from the 1-0 win at Bournemouth.

Liverpool predicted lineup

Liverpool possible starting XI: Alisson; Araujo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Munoz; Barcola
