Liverpool host Como in a double-header at Anfield on Sunday, with the penultimate pre-season friendly staged as two separate matches: the first behind closed doors and the second open to supporters.

Pre-season under Andoni Iraola has been a rollercoaster. The Reds began well, claiming back-to-back wins over Sunderland (4–2) and Wrexham (1–0), but problems at the back soon emerged. Liverpool then lost 4–2 to Leeds United and went down 3–2 to AS Monaco, leaving questions over their defensive stability ahead of the competitive campaign.

Liverpool team news

Iraola must manage mixed availability with the Premier League opener against Newcastle approaching.

Alexis Mac Allister returns from a prolonged post-tournament break and will start the morning, closed-doors game. Loan signing Ronald Araújo is set to make his unofficial Anfield bow in the evening fixture, likely partnering Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

New signing Víctor Muñoz and fit-again defender Jérémy Jacquet are also included in Sunday’s plans.

But Liverpool’s backline options are stretched by several absences: Joe Gomez is out with a fresh muscle problem, Conor Bradley is recovering from a knee issue, Hugo Ekitiké remains sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury, and teenage defender Giovanni Leoni is still unavailable long-term after an ACL tear.

Liverpool predicted lineup

Possible Liverpool starting XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Araujo, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak
