Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho is ready to refuse to play for the club in order to force through a move to Barcelona in January according to reports in Spain.
Coutinho was subject of several bids from the La Liga side this summer, but Jurgen Klopp held firm, refusing to sell his star player. Barcelona confirmed that Liverpool asked for a staggering €200m for Coutinho, a figure that they refused to match, despite having banked €220m from the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.
However, reports in Spain claim that the playmaker is furious at Liverpool’s stubbornness to do a deal and is willing to to on some form of strike.
Sport claim that the Brazilian will refuse to play in Liverpool’s Champions League group stage games that begin next week. This is so that he would be able to play for the Catalan club in the latter stages of the tournament should he be able to make the move in the January window.
Whether Barcelona return to the negotiating table this in January is yet to be seen, but Coutinho’s willingness to make himself available for their biggest games of the season could tempt them to rekindkle their interest.
