Liverpool full back Nathanial Clyne is facing a further three months on the sidelines after undergoing an surgery on his injury.
Clyne is yet to feature for the Reds this season after suffering a back injury during a preseason game against Tranmere. He returned to training a few weeks ago, but suffered a set back in his recovery.
The former Southampton defender took to Twitter to confirm that he had had a ‘small and successful’ operation:
“Frustrating period for me but hopefully now things are on the up!
“Had a small & successful op and working hard to get back on the pitch.”
The recovery from surgery is expected to keep him out for a further three months, with a potential return date pencilled in for February. He then faces a race against time to regain fitness and form ahead of next summers World Cup in Russia.
Not only does he have to get into form, he will need to dislodge Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier who have established themselves in the England squad over the last few months. His replacement at Liverpool, Joe Gomez, is also in contention for the trip to Russia next year.
